Suffolk Police Donate Ballistic Armor to
Military Units
Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy joins with
Sergeant First Class Tom Seifert (3rd Precinct
SCPD and SPVA Delegate), Kenneth D. Bombace (7th
Precinct SCPD and SPVA President) and Police
Commissioner Richard Dormer in packing 448 used
police ballistic vests for shipment to military
units preparing for deployment. "Every seven
years, these vests are taken and set aside and
replaced with new vests for our police
officers," said Suffolk County executive Steve
Levy. This time around, instead of scrapping the
vests Suffolk Police are sending them on a
second lifesaving mission to Afghanistan to
protect our soldiers. "These aren't going to be
used by soldiers," said Sergeant first class Tom
Seifert. "But they will use these for vehicles,
put them on the floorboards and in and around
behind seats." Sergeant First Class Tom Seifert
approached the County with this idea after his
returning from his last deployment and with the
help of the SPVA, the County Executive and
Police Commissioner the project was
accomplished.
